The judging was ...interesting to say the least, Len & Maks were going for the jugular.. I mean it’s the switch up, the odds are already against the new couples
1.) Wanya Morris & Witney Carson - Tango (8+7+7+8=30)
Not his best dance, in fact probably his weakest. The song choice was odd, I prefer a sharper sounding song, that James Bay song while nice was too romantic for me for a tango. There was a big gap in there hold as well. He’s still one of the best even on his worst day.
2) Kim Fields & Keo Motsepe - Viennese Waltz (8+6+6+8=28) Kim seemed to really warm up to Keo in this dance. Very beautifully choreographed & danced. It was perfect for Kim because it tapped into her acting talents, something we haven’t seen as deep & emotionally with Sasha. Keo is really blossoming as a choreographer & partner.
Len & Maks were on some other stuff with the scoring, 6′s were insane. It’s as if Maks wasn’t on the dancer’s side, as if he NEVER took liberties with the style to fit a story, song or his partner. I definitely believe the pro’s choreography should be up for criticism, I don’t think Len & Maks didn’t factor the switch-up circumstances almost at all tonight, or they just didn’t care.
3.) Doug & Peta - Tango (7+7+7+7=28) I kind of feel bad for Doug, of all the celebs I think he has to try
to keep up the most with his pro. From Karina to Peta for someone of his skill level is a tall order. He was quite wobbly in this dance, his posture went to hell but I like that you can sense his determination when he’s dancing. Kudos to Peta for not dumbing the choreography down.
4.) Ginger Zee & Mark Ballas - Salsa (8+8+8+8=36)
Mark is good with Salsa’s, Paige’s salsa with Alan is one of the best dances of the season so far. This time, it was so much going on, so many transitions & changes, like Ginger didn’t have enough time to get set in any one combination before it changed. I’m not sure if I liked it or not at first but with a 2nd & 3rd & 4th watch, I decided that I do. I will say kudos to Mark for packing SO much content and footwork in this dance especially with his switch-up partner and not holding back for Paige & kudos to Ginger for not getting lost in it all. This would not be a great routine for someone who isn’t as natural of a performer as she is.
